Trouble shooting on a shoot
Tough tenacity saves client’s time and money

Excerpted here is an article from the 1994 September26/ October 3rd issue of Retail AD-WEEK magazine. Large  portions of the Fall '94 issue of Newport News (Spiegel Inc.) catalog, were designed by Mira Zivkovich, Ms. Zivkovich is the president of New York based MZInc. Advertising

"While some of you have experience with fashion photo shoots and the unforeseen problems that can arise, others might be interested in gaining an insight into the resources required in solving such glitches".

The location chosen for the photography for this section was Toronto, Canada. The models were scheduled, the specific sites arranged, and the fashions had arrived. So what could go wrong? A lunar eclipse, the city's first in 75 years jeopardized the entire project. "The lunar eclipse occurred right in the middle of the shoot, and not only did we lose the light, there was a dramatic 15-degree drop in temperature. We also had to contend with rain," explained Zivkovich.

"At MZInc we pride ourselves on our ability to go above and beyond for our clients. In that spirit, we did everything humanly possible to salvage the shoot, even in the face of an eclipse," she added.  In this case, going ‘above and beyond' meant arranging for specialized equipment including lights to create a sunset effect, renting a tent and heaters to offset the cold and discomfort of the models, hiring additional photography assistants (ten in all), and working into the wee hours of the morning to enable the shoot to continue!

"Our goal was clear and we responded successfully to the challenge. My philosophy was "nothing will stop us". It is easy to photograph in perfect weather conditions, but a mark of a true professional is the ability to overcome any adverse weather situation" Zivkovich pointed out.

Of the shoot, Zivkovich comments: "There is always a creative solution, even for a lunar eclipse and adverse weather conditions. I'm happy to say that we found it and conquered all obstacles!"
